South Africa votes

On the 22 April, South Africans went to the poles to vote.

We had a voting station just down the road from us, so we decided to bundle up (it was freezing that morning) and take a walk down. We were shocked at the fact that there was already a queue at 07h30 in the morning so we joined it and chatted to others around us. Friends of ours were there already, so the kids ran around and played while we waited.

Although we knew what the outcome was going to be for the elections, there was excitement and almost a sense of pride amongst everyone - there was a good spirit and it was almost like everyone came together for the day.

We made our mark for our country, and then headed off to Mugg & Bean down the road with our friends, for some hot coffee and breakfast to thaw us out !

I wanted to take the kids through the whole voting process, and they were all keen on the idea until breakfast was mentioned, and they opted for the warmth of Mugg & Bean rather than the queues !

I guess the thought of hot chocolate and waffles with ice cream will out do anything else when your 10 & 8 !

It was a special day for us - for Aaron & I (and many other South African's) to feel that we have contributed towards our country, and for the boys, as they were allowed to order off the menu before mom arrived !
