Long Weekend

The last weekend in April was a long one - well the Monday was not a holiday, only the Tuesday so we took the Monday off as the schools were closed and headed off to the lodge for some time out.

On arriving at the turn off we were met with mist, rain, and plenty mud !  We slid our way along the road much to the boys delight and my horror !  At one stage we could barely see 20 meters in front of us.

It was a quiet and very cold weekend.  Time was spent in front of the fire and with all 4 of us cuddled up in bed watching videos. 

Aaron and the boys headed out one day and cut down some whattle and made some bow and arrows, and I must say, they worked very well. 

We also bought a garmen and the boys discovered the geocach at Doornkop, which was a semi precious stone and they had to take that and replace it with something else, which ended up being one of Hudson's bafana bafana wrist bands.

They then hid the Radomsky treasure somewhere in Doornkop and will log the clues onto the Geocach site.  It was all very exciting !

We headed out to Dullstroom on the Monday for the day - it was just as cold and misty there.  We went to our favorite place for lunch -  "Pickles & Things" and walked around the shops.  They have a new road going through to Dullstroom so it was a pleasant drive.

Tuesday was our anniversary and we woke up to giggles and a lot of noise from the kitchen - I think we were supposed to be sleeping but from the boys running in and out our room to check if we were, and the chattering coming from the kitchen, it was difficult !

We were eventually invited to the lounge to where a fire had been lit (with a whole box of blitz) and breakfast, which consisted of naartjie segments, fudge and a ham and cheese roll, was served.  Hudson had made a card for us on his computer and the whole thing was very special for both of us.

The boys headed out for the morning to get some more things for their bow and arrows and I started packing up - as I picked up some clothes in the boys room, I was met by a huge frog sitting there looking at me - well one thing I can confirm is that there is one deaf frog hopping around Doornkop now !

After breakfast we packed up and headed home - when we reached Carolina, we realized that we had left Aaron's wallet behind so we headed back to Doornkop.  We ordered take away lunch and they had it ready when we go there so at least we had lunch sorted for the boys for the trip home.

We took a different route out of Doornkop and it was really beautiful.  We saw the back of the reserve and the places we always see from the top of the Doornkop hills.

We got back to JHB around 16h30 and took the car for a much needed wash after all the mud then headed off to the airport to see Kath and the girls off as they were headed back to Canada.

We finally got home around 7 and got the boys into the shower and bed.

It was a great weekend of special family time
