New York

Once we left Canada we had a days stop over in New York before leaving for Germany and then back to SA. 

This was a contraption set off with balls that fasinated the boys

There was no way we were going to stay in the airport so we took an airport bus to some terminal near time square.  I was totally confused and had no idea where we were but Aaron is really good with things like that and we didn't get lost.  I had to have a hot dog like you see in the movies and it was terrible !  Definately not like in the movies at all !

  

We ended up near some terminal and worked out which train to catch to get us close to the ferry to Staton Island.

We wanted to see the statue of Liberty and ground 0 and a few other things so it literally was a quick tour - I felt really bad as we literally dragged the boys all over and by the end of it, they were finished.

We got to the ferry and made the trip across and saw the Statue of Liberty - man alive, it was cold on the Ferry !  It was already cold and the wind from the water made it even worse.  Once we got to the other side we literally got off, walked around to the entry side and got back on.

Once we got back to the NY side we took a walk to ground 0 - we didn't know where it was but went according to people pointing in the direction it was.  We found our way to Wall street and of course had to pose with the Bull.

You cant see too much at ground 0 as they are still building and have blocked it off.  We went into the memorial building which is small but you can feel the respect and certain aire about it immediately.  It had memorabilia and pictures all around and was very moving.

Campbell popped his balloon by accident in the middle of the shop which was very inappropriate but very funny - everyone around him jumped - we just pretended that he wasn't ours !

From there we made our way back to the subway and on the way bought a proper NY pizza piece - it was delicious !  We found the terminal for the airport again and while waiting for the bus to fetch us the boys posed with some NY cops which was fun - I think they thought we were mad !

We got to the airport on time and headed back to Germany where we had a 7 hour wait - we managed to find "sleeping chairs" and basically slept nearly the whole time !  I think that might be why we weren't too jet lagged when we got home.

It was an awesome holiday with many special memories but we were happy to get home to our beds, animals and home. 

The boys are still talking about their holiday and every now and again its, "mom remember when', and dad "remember when" and those memories will always be so very special from an awesome holiday.

Thank you boys for being so good while waiting hours at airports, being hauled around shops and streets and standing in queues.  You were awesome and I look forward to many more exciting holidays together.
