Dad had a ride on one which he thoroughly enjoyed. The had lunch on the deck afterwards overlooking the elephants.
The following evening we had a surprise birthday party for him.
The Durbs family arrived on Saturday morning and we spent the morning lazing around and catching up. Mom and dad went through to Melrose arch to get a few things for their trip to the states so we took this opportunity to shoot through to the restaurant to set up everything.
We had arranged for Traci (who is in Denver, Colorado) to connect through to us on Skype as they couldn't make it out for Dad's birthday. And then raced home to get there before the folks.
We had invited 14 of dad's closest friends and they all arrived at the restaurant before us - we told dad that it was just a family evening but when he walked in, everyone was sitting there.
We had the party at the The Chief's Boma at the Indaba hotel - it was a buffet with every conceivable food you can think of - from biltong and cashew nuts for starters to Springbok shank, warthog,kudu steaks, babotie to desserts which were to die for. 
It was a Zulu theme and during the evening a Zulu band started with their drumming and singing. They sang happy birthday to dad and then got him to join them.
He joined in the band and danced and played the drums why wearing their head gear.
The started singing shosholoza and mom went up with the mike so that Traci could hear them - I went up to take photo's photo's of mom and the next thing we knew, we were all in a snake going around the restaurant. 
We made a circle and danced with them while they dance and sang in the middle of the circle. Somehow I got pulled into the circle to dance with them - a bit embarrassing but great fun.
The night was over by 22h30 (which is acceptable for a 70th - sorry dad).
The next morning we all went to church together which was really nice then went home to prego rolls and a lazy arvi.
