A Cold Doornkop

Seeing it was school holidays, we thought we would take some time out from JHB and soccer mania and head out to the Lodge.

Much to my delight I found out that the Springboks were playing against Italy in Witbank that weekend so tickets were very quickly.

We arrived on Tuesday to a VERY cold farm !  Our trees have been eaten by one of the animals there and after duscussing which one, we were convince it was the giraffe and Hudson pointed out that we should look outside - there were 2 of them walking across our lawn right in front of the pool !

They looked a bit put out that we were there and they now couldnt help themselves to what was left of our trees !

In true soccer fashion the boys constructed a wooden goal and continued the soccer fever throughout the week.  We went down to the club house on Wednesday evening to watch Bafana unfortunately loose.  It was freezing !  Luckily we deceided to take the closed landy and even then we froze.  We got back to the lodge after the game and the clock read -1 !

On Thursday the boys went down to fish while I read - Campbell caught a trout much to his delight ! 

On Thursday arvie Annie and Ethan joined us as Steve had work to do and we spent Friday at the dams again - Annie and I basking in the sun with a glass of champagne and our books while the boys ran around fishing and chasing the poor Ostrich who thought it was a good idea to join us.

Aaron caught 4 fish and was very chuffed with that.

Stephen joined us on Saturday monring and arrived literally frozen, as he left JHB at 6 in the morning and drove through on his bike.  We woke up at the lodge and the valley was completely covered in mist so I can see why he arrive VERY cold.

We packed up after breakfast and headed out to Witbank to watch the Bokke.  It was a stange game in that if wasnt the best stadium and felt a bit like a boys school game but hey it was the Bokke and we really enjoyed it especially when they beat Italy !

We arrived back quite late at the lodge and settled down to an awseome blue cheese pasta cooked by the Brents.

Sunday was fathers day so the boys made Aaron a book marker each and Campbell made him breakfast.  Ethan and Campbell decided that they were going to catch a bird and set up everything - unfortunately (or fortunately) nothing was caught but not due to the lack of effort from the boys.  After shooting for a while the boys headed back to the club house and we all went back to bed for a sleep and to read our books.

There was no rush to get home so we left that afternoon and headed back to JHB.  Thanks to the Brents for a lekka but very cold weekend
