Arbor Day

We celebrated Arbor day last month and the boys had to dress up for civies day at school, in something that expressed their cultural.

It was a bit difficult, as a South African is a South African !

It was straight forward for Campbell - he was going as a Springbok player - that alone is a culture of its own !

He wore his rugby shorts and his springbok jersey, and he was set. Hudson was a bit more difficult - being nearly 11, there is an element of "being cool" that has to be considered as well.

We agreed on him going as a boer, which he was happy with (I think the fact that he could make a rifle to go with the outfit ,was the selling point), until we looked through books and saw what he actually had to wear !

There was NO WAYS he was being seen in a khaki suit with long socks.

After many hours and unpacking of cupboards, we agreed on a miner.

This meant he got to wear his jeans and a sleevless shirt (which was actually a winter vest, but I didnt go into details for obvious reasons), his black takkies and a bandana.

He looked really cool and was chuffed, so it was worth the stress.

Some parent donated trees to the school, which were planted on the day, and the boys had a good experience.
